Nursing facility staff can learn a lot while working with providers at patient bedside for weekly wound care rounds. Assistant Director of Nursing Nicole Haraldstad said she has learned a lot in her role as she accompanies Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care providers to treat patients at South Shore Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center in Rockland, MA
She said the providers are very pleasant to work with and have a great bedside manner. Additionally, they are knowledgeable and provide an educational piece that is beneficial.
“I have learned a lot just by working with them,” Nicole said. “They like to teach you as they go along. If they see changes in the wound, they educate us on it, explain the cause of the change and make recommendations. I appreciate their professionalism in their specialty.”
Communication between her and the providers is also a positive experience.
“If I have any questions or need clarification on care notes, they respond quickly,” Nicole said.
She noted that patients are given the choice to set up wound care with an outside provider or at bedside.
“Patients like the convenience of not going out,” said Nicole. “It’s good for us as well. Setting up transportation can be difficult.”
