Nursing facility partnership gives patients a cohesive plan of care

Dedicated, knowledgeable and collaborative is how Laurie Bouzan, MSPT at Beaumont Rehab in Westborough, MA described her experience with the providers from Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care.

Dr. Novikov began providing weekly care to patients at bedside at the facility in 2015. Laurie makes it a priority to accompany the providers on wound care rounds and be a part of the team in the building.

Her role as a Physical Therapist at the facility is to make recommendations to patients as to how to improve their seating, bed positions or footwear to promote optimal skin integrity. She also develops strengthening programs to reduce edema and ways to increase blood flow and blood circulation to increase healing time.

“We work well together as a team to determine the best plan for our wound care patients,” Laurie said. “There is professional respect for what everyone brings to the table.”

Patient benefits

Additionally, Laurie noted that bringing all disciplines together has benefits for the patients.

“Everybody has recommendations to make,” she said. “We discuss the case right in the patient’s room and leave the room with a plan. Everybody has something to bring to the case and I find that those patients tend to have the best outcomes. Patients have a more cohesive plan of care.”

Laurie said all the providers – Dr. Novikov or one of the Physician Assistants – are all very knowledgeable. The consistency of their weekly visits is another positive benefit for the patient.

“They seem to be on the same page as far as the patient’s plan of care and the way they approach wound treatment,” she said. “It’s been a positive experience and I have learned a lot from Dr. Novikov. He is very knowledgeable and attends conferences to bring back the latest trends and products in the wound care industry. He is dedicated to his profession.”
