Our Gap Year Scribe & Practice Assistant Education Program is our commitment to educating the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care takes pride in educating the next generation of healthcare professionals. Since 2016, we have been running this program successfully to provide college graduates of pre-health majors an immersive and comprehensive experience in wound care, skincare and beyond. This is an unique opportunity with the highest one-on-one time with a provider and best mentorship for medical school.
Our gap year students double as both scribes for our providers and practice assistants in the office, giving them the opportunity to work one-on-one with physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners; get experience with hands-on patient care; and learn the basics of business and administration within the scope of healthcare. Our previous gap year students have moved on to become physician assistants (PA), nurse practitioners (NP), doctors of osteopathic medicine (DO), and doctors of allopathic medicine (MD). They take their knowledge of wound care and experience working in a private practice with them as they pursue their careers in healthcare.
Our program is an excellent way to expose college graduates to the rigors and rewards of a career in medicine, and many of our past gap year employees have gone on to accept spots in competitive health professional schools across the country.

Characteristics of our Gap Year Scribe Education Program candidates
- College graduate looking to apply to a health professional school within the next few years.
- Able to commit to a minimum of 1 year. Keep in mind that while we have no maximum time commitment, this position is built as a transitional job between undergraduate and graduate school. Most people in our gap year program stay between 1-2 years.
- Strong academic performance. We do not have a GPA requirement and take a holistic approach to reviewing resumes, but candidates should have a competitive academic background.
- Experience in healthcare. While hands-on experience is not required, we prefer candidates who have work or volunteer experience in the healthcare field, have learned the basics of patient care, and have been exposed to various patient demographics.
