NORTHBOROUGH – Exceptional quality of care, outstanding healing outcomes, and quick access to providers are all part of the experience as a patient at Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care. The practice, founded by Dr. Mikhail Novikov in 2018, is located at 318 Main Street, Suite 165 in Northborough. Novikov brings over 20 years of experience to his patients.

The practice specializes in complete wound care and dermatologic care, including surgical dermatology procedures. A variety of conditions are treated, such as skin biopsies, excisions of cysts and lipomas, and treatment of pressure ulcers.

In addition to Novikov, another surgeon and two specialized physician assistants are a part of the provider team.

Patients benefit from bedside wound care

In addition to treating patients at the office, Novikov has built partnerships with long-term care and rehabilitation facilities throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Patients are assessed, diagnosed and treated at bedside during weekly visits, which is a unique aspect of the practice.

Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care’s healing rates are about 50 percent better than the national average.

In addition, patients who are elderly or experiencing mobility issues can avoid stressful and costly hospital visits by receiving care without leaving the facility.

Dr. Novikov’s commitment to patient care and building relationships

Novikov’s career path to medicine began at age 16, while volunteering at a hospital near his hometown in Russia. The experience of having people recognize him around town and express appreciation for his help while hospitalized has been the foundation of how Novikov has practiced medicine throughout his career.

Building trust and positive relationships with each of his patients has always been a priority.

Patient testimonials demonstrate the commitment, professionalism, and skill of the providers.

Convenient, expedited appointments are available

One key message from Novikov is the importance of seeking treatment by a wound care specialist if a wound is not healing within four weeks.

“Seeking proper care and treatment earlier results in better outcomes for the patient,” he said. “There are no benefits to waiting. Our mission is to prevent unnecessary hospitalization and to provide safe, thorough and convenient care for patients.”

Patients who are experiencing a specific skin concern who prefer to be seen quickly are typically able to secure an appointment within a week of calling. Same-day appointments may be offered for acute and chronic conditions.

Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care focuses on quality treatments and outcomes

Northborough – Experience, expertise and quality treatment is what patients can expect at Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care. The practice, founded by Dr. Mikhail Novikov, is located at 318 Main Street, Suite 165, in Northborough, and welcomes new patients as it adheres to the continued strict protocols and guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The office is a safe environment,” said Novikov. “Patient screenings are conducted to minimize possible exposure to COVID-19 and we have adapted to all safety protocols while providing quality care.”

During the last few months, the health care team quickly adapted to new technology changes, such as offering telemedicine and video conferencing.

Novikov and his staff offer full body skin exams and surgical dermatology treatments, such as skin tag, lipoma and cyst removal. In addition, he provides wound care, which is often delivered directly to patients residing in long term care and nursing home facilities.

He would like to be the first call patients make for skin problems as he can address non-urgent skin concerns at his office, which has updated diagnostic equipment for early detection of pre-cancer lesions. The providers are committed to identifying and treating precancerous lesions before it becomes skin cancer. If necessary, he will quickly refer patients to specialists and facilitate hospital care and surgery.

“If I don’t have enough experience, I will refer the patient to the proper specialist,” he said. “I will not pretend to know something. We are interested in the overall outcome.”

Since the Northborough office opened in November 2018, the main focus of the practice continues to be quality based and not revenue based. It also provides the patient with convenience and cost savings.

He emphasized his practice can see patients quickly in comparison to the waits a dermatologist or general surgeon office may have. An emergency room visit and a higher copay can also be avoided by patients who make their first stop at Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care.

Novikov offers two key points of advice. Preventative skin checks are important and as summer approaches, sunscreen is important.

“Protecting yourself from the sun is a long term investment in your health,” he said. “Sun exposure will result in sun damage. The damage won’t be seen right away. It may take 10-20 years.”

Novikov uses a multi-disciplinary approach to address a patient as a whole. Aspects that might have led to the condition, including diet, type of bed, and overall living environment are all considered. This nonstandard approach leads to better outcomes.

Northborough – Dr. Mikhail Novikov’s spark for medicine was ignited in high school when he volunteered in the Emergency Department of a local hospital in Russia where he grew up. His education, experience and background led him to his current position as Medical Director of his new Wellness and Skin Care office in Northborough, which opened in November of 2018. It is located at 318 Main St., Suite 165.

Novikov along with three other providers, including two Physician Assistants, provide complete dermatologic care, wound care, physical exams and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries all in one location.

He wants people to think of his office as first responders.

The care the providers offer and the ease of making an appointment without a long wait not only brings convenience to the patient but a cost savings, as it often prevents the need for a more expensive emergency room or urgent care visit.

“We are able to provide care to the majority of patients in the office setting,” Novikov said. “If a solution cannot be found or the patient needs more sophisticated treatment, they will be referred to a specialist.”

One service that is offered is a full body skin exam, which is advised for people over 40.

“We can look at the skin and identify precancerous lesions, which can be treated to prevent them from becoming skin cancer,” Novikov said.

The practice is also committed to wound care, often providing services directly to patients staying at long term care and nursing home facilities.

“We are proud of the data on our healing rates,” he said. “Our average is 35 days versus 66 days.”

Novikov also utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach and addresses a patient as a whole to also consider aspects that might have led to the condition, including diet, type of bed, and overall living environment. This nonstandard approach leads to better outcomes.

“Quality is our main concern,” he said. “It’s our priority.”

It is also important to Novikov that the patient knows him and his staff by name and to not lose the feel of the one-on-one, patient-doctor relationship.

The office treats people of all ages, including adolescents with acne and skin problems.

He does remind everyone the importance of using sunscreen.

“The younger population won’t see skin changes for another 10-20 years,” said Novikov. “Sun damage will exhibit later and not be present right away.”

Novikov also sees patients in Marlborough at the Charles River Medical Associates location on 246 Maple St. He looks forward to seeing more patients, noting that both locations are convenient especially for those with limited transportation.

“The biggest compliment is patient referrals,” he said.
