Adrianna Niles is Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care’s newest team member as part of the Gap Year Scribe & Practice Assistant Education Program. She has a strong academic background and a clear interest in clinical medicine.
Background
Early in her academic career, she developed a strong interest in science.
“Throughout my educational journey, I’ve always had a love for science, in particular biology and anatomy,” she said.
Adrianna earned her undergraduate degree at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where she studied biomedical engineering.
“My coursework not only challenged me, but it demanded me to think outside the box to find engineering solutions for medical problems,” she said.
One course stood out in particular, Physiology and Engineering, as it combined her love for anatomy with engineering systems.
Her new role
The medical scribe role appealed to Adrianna because of its collaborative and immersive nature.
“Not only am I working among a group of scribes, but I am working and learning alongside the providers,” she said. “I was drawn to the duality of the program gaining hands-on experience with patients while also learning the insurance side of medicine.”
As Adrianna has settled into her role, she has embraced both challenges and opportunities for growth. She has learned to navigate the fast pace of seeing patients.
“Not only do you want to be able to scribe fast, but you need to be able to produce an accurate and correct note,” she said.
At the same time, she finds the variety of cases especially engaging.
“I’ve found the complex and diverse range of patients and cases to be the most interesting part,” she said. “I’ve already been exposed to a variety of healthcare cases that are extremely interesting.”
Looking ahead, Adrianna sees her new role as a critical steppingstone towards physician assistant school.
Fun fact: Adrianna played varsity basketball in college. She also enjoys travelling, reading and going to the gym.
