Juliana Vinkels reflects on her transformative year as a scribe for the practice. She is now on her way to nursing school. At Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care, we take pride in fostering an environment where aspiring healthcare professionals can grow, learn, and gain valuable experience.
A Year of Growth and Learning
Juliana describes her time as a scribe as “filled with opportunity and education.” Her top takeaways include the interprofessional relationships she built, the supplementary education she received during rounds with providers, and the confidence she developed in nursing home settings. Each of these experiences has shaped her journey and prepared her for what’s ahead.
Personal Growth and Overcoming Challenges
Confidence was a key area of personal growth for Juliana. With support and guidance from the providers, she learned to take on leadership roles and navigate the complexities of patient care. She also faced a steep learning curve, entering her first post-graduate clinical role with limited experience. However, she embraced the challenges, gaining efficiency in medical documentation, terminology, and rounds.
A Role Beyond Expectations
Unlike traditional scribe roles, Juliana found herself wearing many hats, stepping outside of her initial job role to take on diverse responsibilities. This hands-on experience not only strengthened her work ethic but also reaffirmed her path in medicine.
Looking Ahead
Juliana is now enrolled in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program at Mass General Hospital’s Institute of Health Professions, starting in May 2025. After completing the rigorous 12-month program and passing the NCLEX, she will officially be a registered nurse!
Advice for Future Scribes
For those considering this role, Juliana offers a key insight: “Don’t be afraid to ask questions and tap into your resources.” She said the experience you gain is invaluable, and the mentors around you are eager to help you grow.
We are incredibly proud of Juliana and can’t wait to see her impact in the nursing field. Congratulations, Juliana!
