Director of Nursing Jonathan Gonzalez (Care One, Brookline) said he saw an immediate difference in wound healing after Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care specialists partnered with the facility. He attributes this to accurate diagnosis of the wounds from the start.
“Your group is accurate in diagnosis, accurate in treatment for quicker healing, and demonstrates seamless teamwork and communication,” he said. “In my experience, it’s the best healing outcomes I have seen.”
One of the first things done was the reclassification of patient pressure wounds to a more accurate diagnosis for those that were venous or arterial in nature.
“Accurate diagnosis of wounds helps heal wounds,” Jonathan said.
He also said that instead of using expensive debridement agents, Dr. Novikov providers expertly perform bedside debridement with special instruments, such as a scalpel.
“When you use a debridement agent, like Santyl, the nurses don’t always know how to use it and it takes longer for it to work,” he said. ““Removing dead tissue by bedside debridement facilitates the wound healing process and saves the facility money.”
The education piece offered to nursing staff is beneficial too.
“I can attest to the education,” Jonathan said. “I had this learning opportunity in another building and found topics such as ‘wound staging’ and ‘why debridement’ very useful.”
He also praised the consistency of the provider schedule, something that was lacking with a previous wound care provider.
“You honor flexibility and have never missed a day,” he said. “It’s perfect and what I needed to happen.”
Jonathan saw the immediate difference in wound care programs and providers. For facilities contemplating a change in providers, he said “You don’t need to look any further. They [Dr. Novikov and providers] deliver on everything they say they are going to do.”
