Summer Isn’t Over Yet—Keep Your Skin Protected

Summer Isn’t Over Yet—Keep Your Skin Protected

The calendar may say late summer, but the UV index is still high—and your skin knows it.

Sun exposure is the #1 preventable cause of skin cancer and premature aging, yet many people let their guard down as summer winds down. At Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care, we want to remind you sun safety is a year-round priority, especially while the sun is still strong.

Why Late Summer Sun Can Still Harm Your Skin
UV rays don’t take a break just because school is back in session. In fact, you may spend more time outside enjoying warm weekends, late-season beach trips, or back-to-school sports—all of which expose your skin to UV damage. UV rays can still reflect off of sand and water, intensifying your exposure.

Here’s how to stay protected:

  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning, even on cloudy days
  • Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours when outdoors or after swimming/sweating
  • Wear sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats
  • Choose UPF-rated clothing when spending long hours in the sun
  • Avoid tanning beds and intentional sunbathing

Don’t Forget Skin Checks
Even with good habits, it’s important to schedule routine skin checks—especially if you notice any new or changing moles, spots, or lesions. Early detection is key to treating skin cancer successfully.
