It is a quick, office-based procedure: your provider takes a small sample of skin and sends it to a pathology lab, then reviews the results with you — along with what they mean and what happens next.
What to expect
- A quick visit — the biopsy itself typically takes only a few minutes
- The area is numbed with a local anesthetic; most patients feel only the brief pinch of the numbing needle
- Depending on the spot, your provider takes a small shave or punch sample
- A small bandage goes on, and most people return straight to their day
- You leave with simple wound-care instructions
- Results are reviewed with you — typically within one to two weeks — with a clear plan for any next steps

How do I get my results?
Our office contacts you when results are in — typically within one to two weeks — and your provider reviews them with you, not just a letter in the mail.
What if the biopsy shows skin cancer?
Many small skin cancers can be treated right in our office with an elliptical excision or other in-office procedures. Your provider will walk you through the options and the plan.
