‘We have a zero-infection rate related to wounds’

Assistant Director of Nursing Services Jessica Richard said her facility has a zero-infection rate related to wounds. She has many roles at Beaumont, a 96-bed facility in Northborough which provides an entire range of patient care. One of those roles includes being in charge of tracking patient wounds. Her collaborative relationship with the team of providers from Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care has been a part of the successful treatment of wounds.

“It is a lot of work but with the help of the team, it is easier to be proactive, stay on top of things and prevent infection and the deterioration of wounds,” Jessica said. “We catch them early…and heal them pretty quickly.”

She has had a decade of experience working with the providers of Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care in this facility as well as others.

“They are very collaborative, easy to work with and have a great bedside manner,” she said.

The educational piece at the patient’s bedside is also beneficial.

“He [Dr. Novikov] always asks for my opinion and explains what he thinks,” Jessica said “It is a team effort to come up with the best solution and intervention for our residents. Patients absolutely love the fact that someone is taking specific time to look at their wounds, how they are progressing, and explain what they can do better to heal quicker. The families also appreciate it.”

Additionally, the results of this team effort can be seen in the healing rates..

“We have a zero-infection rate related to wounds,”  said Jessica. “This impacts our quality measures in a positive way, which helps us to maintain our CMS 5 star rating.”
