Nursing facility benefits from consistency of team, up-to-date treatments

Krystin B is an Assistant Director of Nursing and Staff Development at Countryside Healthcare of Milford. She has been accompanying Dr. Novikov Wellness and Skin Care providers on wound care rounds for about a year.

It has been a positive experience for her.

“It’s an additional set of eyes and skills to make sure what we are doing is working and is the best and most currently available treatment,” Krystin said. “We have learned a lot. Having the same team to see patients helps to develop and establish relationships and trust which is very helpful.”

She noted that having bedside services available for the patients has also been beneficial, especially for the long term care residents. The logistics of the care provided in house are efficient in comparison to arranging outpatient wound care services.

“It is appreciated that the providers try to be as least disruptive and accommodate patient schedules and lifestyles as best they can,” Krystin said.

The care provided is a holistic approach that ensures the best treatment using the most up-to-date evidence. Care of the wound is a priority as well as the prevention of other skin integrity issues.

“Physician Assistant Kimmy is fantastic and definitely comes into the facility with a multi-discipline approach,” she said. “She provides educational feedback based on what she sees and also works with our inhouse physicians. She educates the patient on what she is doing, why she is doing it and what to expect.”

Additionally, Krystin noted patients who are discharged from short rehab stays have the option of continuing their care on an outpatient basis with Dr. Novikov in his office.
